Plot:
True to its title ‘Paasam’ depicts the extraordinary love of a son towards his mother. Gopi (M.G. Ramachandran) is brought up in a juvenile home, as he accidentally commits a murder. After his release he searches for his mother and brother, but is unable to trace them. He lands up in the same village, where his brother Raghu, lives and works as a government officer. He falls in love his friend Kali’s sister Chandra, but kali refuses, accusing him of being an orphan. Raghu and Chandra are to be engaged. Angry at being thwarted and little knowing that Raghu is his brother, he joins Swamintatn in trying to trap Raghu in a burglary case. Ironically both Raghu and Gopi do not know the true identity of Swaminathan is as he had thrown away his wife Shanta, their mother, several years ago. Several truths are revealed when he meets his mother face to face. Is he able to set things right, or does he commit further blunders?

Plot:
MGR plays a simple down-to-earth man who works as an honest clerk in the mayor's office.For the mayoral election;when political bigwigs of a party fight among themselves for being in race for the mayoral elections;they bring MGR as a compromise candidate;since he is handsome and has a reputation of being very honest. But when he wins ;he does not behave like their puppet and even tries to arrest them for being corrupt.But being a novice;he easily gets trapped into their hands.Forced to resign;his brother tells him that those three are like God and don't harm them.When the elder brother too realises that they are corrupt;he too gets trapped for he knew their true intentions.Now;it's for MGR to prove that he is innocent and that those three are frauds.

A discerning listener will certainly concur with MSV on this. Please give this song a hear and enjoy the lucid ‘PBS birkas’ that the tune yearns for. TMS had been MGR’s choice for this song as the other MGR songs ‘achham enbathu madamayadA’ , ‘AdAtha manamum uNdO’ and ‘kaniya kaniya mazhalai pEsum’ had had TMS at his very best voice. But are we glad that MGR did relent in this case !!!

Review:
Enga Veettu Pillai, with MGR in a dual role, distinguishes between the characters by making one a coward and the other a brave man. It has fun by putting the brave man in the coward's place and making him teach a lesson to the people around him. It is an enjoyable entertainer and was one of MGR's biggest hits.

Ramu(MGR) is the cowardly one - the heir to all riches of Poonjolai jamin. He has been raised that way by his uncle Narendran(Nambiar). Ramu shivers at the very mention of his uncle's name and a whiplash is Narendran's favorite form of punishment. Narendran wants to get Ramu married to Leela(Saroja Devi) but she is turned off by his cowardice. Ilango(MGR) is a jobless young man, prone to pick a fight and for this reason, the cause of trouble for his mother. Circumstances lead to Ramu and Ilango taking each others' place. Ilango teaches a lesson to Narendran while Ramu learns the ways of the world. The position of Ramu(in Ilango's place) is only marginally interesting as the listless romance with Rathna is the only major thing happening. Thankfully, the actions of Ilango are concentrated upon as he is wooed by Saroja Devi and hated by Nambiar and co. The revelation of the switch is handled neatly and the emotions of the heroines are not carried on for too long. But the subsequent story that digs into the pasts of the two look-alikes is confusing and extends the movie unnecessarily.

Synopsis:
Dharma Lingam (M. R. Radha) is a rich man who has a daughter named Sarasu (Saroja Devi) and two sons. The elder son marries a girl named Kamala who conceives a male child. After the elder sons death Dharma Lingam refuses to accept his daughter in law and grandson. Kamala seeks the assistance of Nathan (MGR) who is a police officer, to file a suit against Dharma Lingam. Nathan, on his way to Dharma Lingam's house meets Sarasu. Both of them fall in love with each other. Later Nathan finds that Kamal has been murdered and tries to track the culprit. Meanwhile Nathan's sister Uma comes with Kamala's child in search of Nathan. Dharma Lingam hides her, thinking that she is Kamala. Nathan finds Kamala's body in Dharma Lingam's garden and accuses him of being the murderer. The police arrest Dharma Lingam. What happens later forms the rest of the story.

An ancient song and dance extravaganza with MGR and Anjali Devi in a tale of yore, of princes and princesses and of competing suitors in a game of dance. Kalaivaanar N S Krishnan delivers delightful comedy mixed with gems of wisdom. Contains the famous “Ulagathile Bayangramana Aayutham Ethu” song. Another song “Aada vange annathe” is a kuthu song, probably the earliest in Tamil film industry. MGR acted and danced very well in this movie.
