Plot:

Plot:
The story begins with a young boy, the eldest son of a poor widow barely able to make ends meet, doing odd jobs along with working at a printing press to provide income to his family and to provide education to his 2 younger brothers and younger sister, sacrificing his own education. He grows up to become Santhanam (Rajinikanth).Due to his extreme poverty, his lover in the office (Jaya) ditches him for a rich person and he ends up marrying Lakshmi (Jayalakshmi), a poor girl. Being extremely poor, they could not even feed their children, let alone live comfortably. He keeps getting money from his friend (Cho Ramaswamy) for almost everything. His younger brothers, having studied and become rich, refuse to help him. His younger sister, for whom Santhanam had spent all his money in order to conduct her marriage, treats him very badly whenever he goes to visit her. He is even fired from his job by his old employer's son who took over the press when the former becomes paralysed after an accident.Eventually, Santhanam leaves his house as he didn't have money to pay the rent even after selling everything they had and he and his family move to a slum. Here he begins to write stories for a magazine in order to earn money. Slowly he becomes rich as his stories were very popular. The movie ends with Santhanam becoming a famous author, his children being sent abroad for higher education and his younger siblings beginning to treat him with respect.

Plot:

Plot:
Mani comes across Gautham (Ajmal), a rich spoilt son of a businessman. Gautham has a peculiar problem. Plot:

Plot:
Aditya (Manoj) who is working as a manager in a big business outfit meets with an accident and loses his memory. The problem is that he cannot remember anything about the past after he wakes up from sleep. Only two people his uncle (Nasser) and personal doctor know about the problem.Even his lover Madhu (Riya Sen) is oblivious of his predicament. Unexpectedly, Aditya's uncle is found murdered and Aditya becomes the prime suspect. An IPS officer Anjali (Sneha Ullal) arrives to solve this murder mystery. The rest of the story deals with the unraveling of the hidden secret.

AR Rahman wins (sweeps) two Oscars

Rahman took one Oscar for the best score and another for his song Jai Ho from the film, a rags-to-riches tale set in the slums of Mumbai.

He praised Slumdog Millionaire's themes of hope and optimism.

Rahman is among five Indians to win an Oscar. Two other Indians, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty, picked up Oscars for original song and sound mixing.

Earlier Oscar winners from India were costume designer Bhanu Athaiya for her work in Gandhi in 1983 and director Satyajit Ray, who won a lifetime achievement award in 1992.

British director Danny Boyle has won best director for Slumdog Millionaire and the film also took best picture. Altogether, it netted eight awards.



INDIAN composer A.R. Rahman's double Oscar win for 'Slumdog Millionaire' is his highest accolade yet in a career that has taken him from provincial Indian cinema to the Hollywood red carpet.

In doing so, the 43-year-old once called 'the Mozart of Madras' becomes only the third Indian to be honored by the Academy, just weeks after becoming the first person from the sub-continent to win a coveted Golden Globe.

Born A.S. Dileep Kumar in the southern city of Madras (now Chennai) on January 6, 1966, Allah Rakha Rahman's father, R.K. Shekhar, was a musical director for movies in the Indian language of Malayalam.

The young Dileep's father died when he was nine, prompting his mother to convert from Hindu to Islam and forcing Rahman into playing music to support his family.

Rahman, who also switched faiths, went on to write jingles and scores for Indian television and eventually set up a high-tech recording studio in his home city where he still lives and works.

His break into the Hindi-language film industry of Bollywood came in 1991 when he composed the music for the movie 'Roja.' Its box office success won him plaudits among audiences and peers.

Leading Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar described Rahman's composition as a 'masterpiece.' Rahman has never looked back and is responsible for music on some of the biggest hits in Indian cinema in recent years and is thought to have sold more than 100 million albums.

The legendary Indian film singer Asha Bhosle once said he had 'brought about a freshness, a new sound to film music.' Rahman's move onto the world stage began in 2001, when British composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber asked him to compose the music for the musical 'Bombay Dreams.' Work on the stage version of 'Lord of the Rings' followed.

'Slumdog Millionaire' brought him even wider acclaim, with its versatile soundtrack fusing hip-hop and pulsing electronica, haunting ballads, instrumentals and upbeat Bollywood-style numbers. Hard-working Rahman, a devout Muslim who composes only at night, is not one to court the limelight, preferring instead a simple life with his wife Saira and three children and working on charitable projects.

He even missed the wild celebrations with the cast and crew at the Indian premiere of 'Slumdog' just after the film was nominated for 10 Oscars. He was putting the finished touches to music for a new movie. The composer's Golden Globes win, which he dedicated to India, was greeted with drums and dancing in movie-mad India. His Oscar win assures him of immortality.

Plot:

Plot:
