Walt Disney to produce Kamal film "Marma yogi"
Walt Disney to produce Kamal film "Marma yogi"
Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan will now join hands with the Walt Disney Productions, who are expected to produce his forthcoming film ‘Marma Yogi’.
Walt Disney Productions, which recently tied up with Yash Raj Films for a full-length animated feature film called ‘Roadside Romeo’, wants to expand its operations across the country. So they have decided to start a venture with the versatile actor cum filmmaker.
The Kamal-Walt Disney venture will be co-produced by Bharath Bala, who produced A. R. Rahman’s patriotic music video Vande Mataram. ‘Marma Yogi’ will also bring Kamal and Rahman together after a long gap.
’Marma Yogi’ will be a period film, set in the seventh century, which will have erstwhile Bollywood heartthrob Hema Malini.
Kamal and Hema Malini had earlier teamed up in ‘Hey Ram’. Asin, the heroine of ‘Dasavadharam’, will play a key role. The film will probably be directed by Kamal Haasan.
’Marma Yogi’ is the title of one of MGR's blockbusters (1951), which happened to be the first Tamil film to receive an 'A' certificate. Kamal has earlier done a movie with the title of another MGR film (Sathi Leelavathi, MGR’s maiden venture as hero, which came in 1936).
‘Marma Yogi’ is said to be one of the costliest films ever made in India with a budget of Rs. 90 crore. Kamal will shortly go to the US to discuss the production of this film, which is slated to be shot in Thailand. The shooting might get started by February.
Tamil movie Bheema-Movie review
Bheema Review
Cast : Vikram, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Sherin, Raguvaran
Direction: Linguswamy
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Production: A M Rathnam
Bheema became one of the longest awaited Tamil movies of recent times not just for the hype it created but also for the time it took, from completion to release. And when a movie is usually this delayed, the hype and hoopla surrounding it fizzles out, but Bheema only became bigger with expectations rising with each passing day. There are several reasons for this: One, this is Vikram’s first movie after two years. Two, Vikram and Trisha pair up for the first time since the extremely successful Saami. Three, Bheema is Lingusamy’s follow-up to the stupendously successful Sandakozhi. And four, Harris Jeyaraj’s soulful songs. But here’s the lowdown: in spite of all the above reasons, the movie doesn’t quite live up to its colossal hype.
Bheema - Vikram
In Bheema, Vikram plays a man who has, since childhood, idolized Prakashraj, a gangster with a heart of gold. Vikram grows up to become a no-nonsense, street smart, powerful young man. Impressed with his courage, Prakashraj embraces him, inducting him into the gang. And with Vikram as his right hand man, Prakashraj gradually becomes the godfather of the city. He even outrivals his archrival, Raguvaran. Filled with rage, Raghuvaran and his two sons attempt to kill Prakashraj and take back the city. But with Vikram by his side they are unable to touch the newly crowned godfather. Meanwhile, Vikram falls in love with Trisha, and he becomes so lost in love that he loses focus and concentration on the job, nearly threatening the life of his idol. Vikram is now forced to choose between work and love. What Vikram will choose forms the rest of this tale. On some level Bheema bears a striking resemblance to Maniratnam’s Dalapathy. As director, Lingusamy succeeds in provoking riveting performances from all the actors, but as scriptwriter he’s not as successful in keeping us involved. From the first reel to the last reel Bheema is packed with the sound of gunfire and fisticuffs – the wirework and action scenes are stunning but as the movie winds down, the relentless violence gets to you. The first half is full of incident but the pace slackens in the second half, no thanks to some inappropriate song placement that spoils the fun. Bheema is full of style but little substance. As in all our masala entertainers, logic takes a back seat. A gravity-defying stunt in a shopping mall restroom is close to being preposterous. However, when Bheema is not about gunfire and fisticuffs, Linguswamy handles several scenes deftly. The scene where a very drunk Vikram spoils a birthday party and talks back to the police commissioner is unforgettable for Vikram’s magnificent acting and some well penned dialogues. Prakashraj, as always, comes up with a topnotch performance. His role is well etched and this versatile actor makes the most out of it. Vikram once again stuns us with his subtle body language, incendiary acting and skillful dialogue delivery. Trisha’s role is bubbly and this talented heroine makes the most of it, looking cute all through the film and ravishing in the song sequences. Raghuvaran delivers that slick, sly villain he is so well know for. Thalaivasal Vijay is competent, reminding you of the Iyer role Delhi Ganesh played so well in Nayagan. As the police commissioner, Aashish Vidyarthi is superb.
Technically, Bheema is brilliant. RD Rajasekhar’s cinematography is a treat for the eyes, especially the Mudhal Mazhai song, which is shot ravishingly. His camera work here is certain to win him laurels. Anthony’s editing is terrific except in a few places where it is not always seamless. The stunts by Kanal Kannan will be a major draw, particularly the fight sequence in the market place where slow motion is used to great effect.
Ahmed Khan’s choreography is understated and tasteful. Harris Jeyaraj’s music, of course, is very good. Unfortunately, some of his songs are inappropriately placed in the film, taking away some of the luster. However, “Oru Mugamo” and “Ragasiya Kanavugal” are memorable numbers that are also shot beautifully. For pure lovers of action, Bheema might just be the Pongal movie they are looking for, but those expecting an action movie with a strong story will be disappointed.

But this happiness that Sala is enjoying is very short-lived. Natessan, who is sick of living in a joint family, gets a much-needed transfer cum promotion to Attakatti, and relishes to spend quality time with his wife. Sala is ripped off her newly-found happiness and the joy of living in a joint family. The story moves on to tell you the overwhelming loneliness that she comes across in this village in a guest house, and how she yearns for someone to be with her, even if it is a lineman from the EB office or a sales lady. How Natessan comes to terms with the truth about his wife's illness forms the rest of the story.

Shankar's Robot movie title will be changed
Director Shankar while talking about the film Robot in an interview given to a TV channel has said that the title of the movie might change.
The buzz is that the State Government’s decision to provide tax-exemption to movies titled in Tamil is the reason that this name change might come through. The Tamil film producers and directors are these days found with Tamil dictionary to choose Tamil titles for their films to avail this concession.
On a 100 crore budget, Robot movie will definitely need the entertainment tax-exemption. There was also a debate over the title of Shivaji, if it was a Tamil name or not. Even with the debate that Shivaji was a Marathi name, the State government accepted that Shivaji is a Tamil title indeed, and the movie was exempted from entertainment tax. This might not work out for Robot, or will they add Robot to Tamil dictionary as well and provide entertainment tax exemption? Only time can tell!!
The meaning of Robot would be “mechanical servant”. So what would the name of Robot movie be after the name change? Any suggestions??

kuselan - Superstar Rajini next film - Official announcement
Rajini’s next movie has been named Kuselan. Even before the excitement of Sivaji down, the announcement about Supter Star Rajini’s forthcoming movies have been announced. This is the movie that he does for P.Vaasu for KB’s Kavithalaya Banner.
In all probabilities it look like the Superstar may do a quickie before he starts the mega project Robot with Shankar. The legendary actor will do this film for his mentor K Balachander under the direction of his closed friend P Vasu, the director has already given four Blockbusters with the actor.
This film titled Kuselan is a remake of the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol which featured Mammooty and Sreenivasan in the lead roles. The film is a light-hearted sentimental comedy that pulls at your heart strings and is about the deep friendship between a barber in a village and a superstar, who comes to shoot a film there. The film has already become a super hit in Kerala and many film makers including Prakash Raj are in queue to get the remaking rights of the film.
The Malayalam version dealt deeply the friendship and relationship between a barber and a popular film star. In Kuselan, Rajnikanth will be playing the role of Mammooty and Pasupathy will take on Sreenivasan’s character. Inside sources reveal that the name Kuselan is chosen from Hindu mythology where he happens to be Lord Krishna’s childhood friend and the latter comes to his rescue when he is in a very bad state of poverty. Looks like the Super Star’s Kuselan also will highlight the significance of true friendship.
Last week, Srinivasan held a special screening of the film for Rajinikanth in Chennai at Four Frames. After the movie, Rajini, who was Srini’s senior at Madras Film Institute, hugged him and shown great interest to remake it in Tamil. Later, the actor invited Srinivasan to his house and hosted lunch after discussing a lot on this remake.
Now everything has been finalized for this remake and Pasupathy has been booked for the barber role which was done by Srinivasan in the original. Vasu has already started his script work for this film and Vidhyasagar will compose music for this perfect entertainer. The title and other cast and crew will be announced by the end of this week.
The shoot of the film will start immediately and Rajinikanth will prefer to complete and release the film by August 2008, before he starts Shankar’s Robot. This would, for sure, help Shankar in fine tuning his script for the mega project.
